I guess very few people have experienced this yet, since h1b dropbox process just got started on 19th November. Your application may be in top 50 :)
I would really appreciate if you and other users will share their experiences about this process.

Please keep us posted about your developments and once you got your visa stamped ,please share your experience :) -Thanks

@shrutixn

I will also be going through the same process. Can you tell me if you had to go for OFC appointment and then dropbox? Also, what documents did you submit? Thanks.

@ shrutixn

where did you go for dropping off documents for H1B dropbox?
its kinda funny you ask this qsn here :) because theres so much confusion about this... you are probably one of the first people to use the dropbox..

Last week I went to dropbox in Bangalore (Prestige atrium) but they did not have a clear idea of it and hence both me and them were hesitant to submit my docs as dropbox. So after that when I called the consulate three different times, they said dropbox option is not valid for H1B.. its only for children and aged people and suggested that IWP (Interview waiver) is valid..

So do you think dropbox facility valid?

I went to the dropbox in Chennai yesterday
The checklist provided in the website, i followed the same, resume, tax documents, bank statement, pay statements, i 797, ds 160 confirmation page, receipt, 1 photograph, dropbox confirmation letter etc, you can check the list on the website
http://www.ustraveldocs.com/in/in-niv-vi...

The process was a breeze, there was a line outside the ofc center but i told the security that i was here for dropbox and he let me in immediately
on the 1st floor they checked my bags and told me to switch off my phone, then went into another room where i was asked for the appointment letter, i showed them the dropbox confirmation letter. they gave me a blue ticket and told me to go to counter 10 once the fellow interviewing there is done.
i went to the counter, handed my documents and passport, the guy behind the counter checked everything and then handed me a receipt which tells that i submitted all the document, i asked him when can i get my passport he said "minimum 3 days, maximum cant say" . he told me that i will be informed that my passport is ready via email or sms to the contact number, he also said that there is a possibilty that i may be called for an interview based on the documents i submitted and background verification. i asked him if there is any way to track the progress , he said there is none. so basically i have to wait till i get an sms or email that my passport i ready for pickup or that i need to come in for an additional interview..
thats my experience

there is a lot of confusion about it among the support staff, but i guess the eligibility criteria is pretty clear on the website, as of 19th nov h1b renewals are eligible if the petitioner and visa class is same and the previous visa is valid or has been expired for less than 12 months

@shrutixn was your case H1 or H4?

I have been talking to call center people, they have been telling me that drop box is only for applicants below 14yrs or above 80 yrs of age and I am eligible for interview waiver only. Hence the bio-metrics has to be done and I have to appear at Mumbai OFC.

Hi shrutixn

I am also in the process of the drop box submission and have a few questions, I would really appreciate if you could answer those-

1. In case of drop box submission there is no appointment scheduled right...you just show up at the consulate and face the steps that you faced..right?
2. After creating a profile on the cgi website as a DropBox applicant, there is no way to say "no" to it and get an appointment for a face to face interview isnt it? Actually I tried to answer "no" on the dropbox qualifying questions on the second attempt but it would not accept the Bank Reference number.

Please let us know about your experiences and also if you can answer the above it would be very beneficial.

Thanks in advance.

Yes no need for appointments, the ofc centre should recognize your dropbox confirmation letter and send you right in to submit the documents.
as for the 2nd question not to sure about it, i did not try to go through the questionnaire again

Its been one week since i submitted my documents and passport, i checked my passport status today by emailing at passportstatus@ustraveldocs.com my current status is " Your passport is still with post."

Hi shrutixn

Thank you for your reply. It seems like interview is better than DropBox, atleast in a few moments it gets clear if the visa is granted or not...Now I am getting worried if I should do the stamping or just come back using AP.
I would appreciate if you can keep us posted with the consulate proceedings...

Thanks again!

Yes, indeed. Infact I had opted drop box, but then the call center people (after repeated calling) gave me a response that its better to opt for Interview Waiver Program instead of drop box.

Any clues which "supporting documents" should I be carrying, we are going as a family (I am for H1, my spouse and child for H4).

Hi shrutixn

On the supporting documents needed, it asks for tax returns and W2's for the previous years...I can provide all of those for last 7 years...but its going to increase the size of the envelope...did you really give them the docs for all the previous years?

Please let me know.

Thanks!

I am sorry, I did not even realize that the question was intended to me..
If you are going for an interview then I would carry everything like-
1. W2's and Tax Returns for atleast past 3 years.
2. Pay stubs (last 3 to 6)
3. Original I 797
4. US Degree Certificate
5. Bank Statements
6. Phone Bills / Utility Bills
7. Credit Report (if you have one)
8. Employment Letter
9. Heck I even carried my car titles..
10. Itinerary
11. For H-4 ...marraige certificate..pictures..I am not sure about more on H-4..

There is a high chance they will not ask for anything for H-1 renewals...but I carried them for just in case purpose..also I am non IT..I dont know if it matters..

Shrutixn:

When you told you submitted all your documents and Passport means:

a) Did you place all your documents in a sealed package before handing over or submitted them all in open for verification

b) The guy behind the counter - Does he verify the Drop box check list only or he tells what needs to be submitted and all? Incase we might miss some documents ..

Thanks,
Cxc123

I gave the documents open so that the guy behind the counter can verify the documents he did not tell me that i was missing any document just went ahead and checked all the documents i had and listed them on a sheet and put everything in a package along with the passport and sealed it.

The interview waiver is similar to dropbox, only difference is your fingerprints are taken again and you need an appointment.
