Topic: Feedback on IV call

I don't even know what you wish to convey in that reply. I got the no one is hater part and me being blind part. Got it!

As I said before, if anyone wants to get involved, use google. You will find recordings and guides. It is very easy to find it. For anyone wanting to learn about last night's call, wait! They typically publish a recording.

My experience is that most people do not understand the threat or are afraid to stand tall in their own skin . Once they grow out of this phase, they seek resources and become active on their own. Most casual 'need update' people are pretty useless.

Topic: Feedback on IV call

Just ignore the haters and keep working.

Most haters are the people who think that after spending 15 minutes to learn about the issue, they will suddenly come up with a bright idea. That's where 'why don't you do this?' questions come from. Others are people who talk the talk but never walk the walk. Pure defeatist people who deserve to stay in backlog for 5 more generations.

Anyone asking for timeline thinks this is some kind of a project. They will try to calculate ROI and KPI for a political process. Let them stay busy spinning their wheels in quagmire of numbers and visa bulletin analysis. Anyone else who want to learn can wait for the audio recording and use their brain and google to find the guide.

Topic: Should I report this?

Report it directly to the govt. Remember , your company's HR is there to protect the company, not you. It will not take long for them to potentially align with the corrupt manager to try to solve the issue quietly and without fanfare. In that case, it will be you who will be sidelined inside the company.

Don't ignore it. People like these must be brought to justice.

Topic: Goodlatte bill coming today - Any details ?

No...fox news is NOT reporting any such thing. What you are referring to is an 'opinion piece' from one of their contributors. Such opinion pieces have nothing to do with the position of the publication. You will see such opposing opinion pieces in all publications and media. They are usually used as a pinata for blowback.

Topic: who is right: IV or immigration girl/lawyers

It is a wrong question. IV hasn't said that this WILL happen. IV said and the news article said that it may happen because there are people in power who WANT to make it happen. It doesn't mean they will or they can.

Similarly, immigration lawyers initially started by saying it is impossible that extensions will be declined what so ever. Now they are saying that IF someone wanted to alter the interpretation , they MAY only touch 3 year extension.

In reality it is nobody's call. Not IV and not lawyers. If the admin may decides to throw all the shit to the wall to see what sticks. They may come to realize that the risks are too high and may water down the rules or not do anything.

As far as I can see IV only did the reporting of the fact that some people in admin were trying to affect H1b renewals. The fact was confirmed by the news article a few weeks later.

Do get in to the who is right and who is wrong game for the items that are still not published.

Topic: H1B regulation approved in House.. Time to pack our bags

In midst of this bill, american IT companies quietly change the definition of 'H1b dependent employer' from 15% to 20% to save themselves and to divert attention to Indian companies.

Any article that advocates more H1b visas but fails to put need for clearing green card backlog ahead of visas is an anti-immigrant article.

Believe it or not there are some idiots on this board and in some {lawyer sponsored} 'activist' groups who actually think Gov't of India gives a crap about backlog and have tried contacting Sushma Swaraj etc. {smh}

EB2 or EB3 doesn't matter. With 2015 PD, you will not be getting your GC in your lifetime or even your kids working life. Best way for you is to try to get to EB1 ( academic or corporate) as of now, but by the time you get a PhD or leave country for a couple of years to do masters means even EB1 route will be completely choked with similar applicants.
Frankly, I don't see what's keeping 2015 to 2017 PD applicants still motivated to stay in the country.
IF this legislation passes, you might have a shot in 4 to 10 years depending on a lot of factors.

Topic: Buying house in current climate

College savings is a difficult thing for H1b slaves like us. If you want to entertain the possibility that there is even a slightest chance that you will leave US, then 529 plans become useless and all the tax advantage they bring disappear.

3. Thought experiment: Would you take equity out of your house and pay 3% on that loan and invest the money in the market? In my experience, no, the middle class won't do it. That's why we are middle class (duh!). So why don't you just put your extra cash in killing the mortgage?
4. To a lot of people, a paid off house acts as a huge financial security allowing them to take bold career moves and pursue other finer things in life. Playing the market and getting a marginal 2% additional interest doesn't matter one whit when you take the life in totality.
5. Disclaimer: Having said this, you could still invest part of the extra cash (which we did). As they say, *never put all eggs in one basket*, and the same is true here. It's not prudent killing only the market and ignoring other obvious opportunities. Killing the mortgage is still a priority for us though; it's just not the only thing.

Let me put it this way...without asking for donations from members, how are they funding all the effort? Advocacy is not just random DC visits in suits. How is SIIA funding a full time DC presence ?

Another question. Are employers and / or immigration lawyers funding SIIA in cash or in kind?

Spot on! You, my friend, have a good thing going over your shoulder.

If you can't put at least 20% down, you are too poor to buy a house in that market. Getting a 30 yr mortgage is stupid. One should be completely debt free including a house by age 50 or sooner. I can't wait to have no payment each month

Don't donate money to IV just yet but get active with local chapter. You will get to know people working locally and understand what they do. They run a very tight ship and will happily tell you to f*** off if you are not a self starter and don't follow their path. I guess when you are a nobody , its better that way. You must have thick skin to work with IV.

No difference. I assume you are driving.
You need Canadian visa to enter Canada. As long as you have that, you are good. When you return, it will be typical border crossing experience at the bridge. You will need a STAMPED US visa to re enter US . Automatic Visa re-validation rule will not be applicable.

When to start applying for Merit based GC ?

Don't wait. You can start applying immediately. The application will just be quickly thrown in the trash bin, so don't hold your breath.
While you are waiting for the results, you may get bored so how about spend some time advancing your education? I will suggest you start educating yourself on terms like 'bill' and 'law' and how a bill is different than a law. It might come very handy.

If enacted, H.R.392 would be the final nail in the coffin to the stated objective in the Immigration Act of 1990 of reducing guest workers in favor of green cards and would create a train wreck in the green card system.

https://cis.org/miano/solving-h1b-green-card-bac...

It will ease the problem of green card backlogs from India, China, Mexico, and the Philippines by inflicting that misery on the entire rest of the world
